Shoujing Cai, Hon Kanshitsu is a private studio run by Katsuaki Masui, a roi-roshi (lacquer polisher) specializing in the final, high-gloss finishing process of Wajima-nuri lacquerware. Based in Wajima, the heart of Japanese lacquer art, we are a dedicated japanese crafts manufacturer committed to exploring the potential of lacquer. Our expertise is built upon the traditional techniques passed down from the previous generation and the specialized knowledge gained at the Ishikawa Prefectural Wajima Urushi Art Training Institute.
Our studio focuses on modern applications of Wajima-nuri, primarily in the realm of Home Goods and Japanese Crafts, with a signature line of accessories:
•Urushi-dama (Lacquer Beads) Accessories: Earrings, necklaces, and other jewelry featuring vibrant, hand-polished lacquer beads.
•Wajima-nuri Art Objects: Items that showcase the deep, beautiful luster of the hon-kanshitsu (true dry lacquer) technique.
•Collaborative Products: Items developed with other brands, such as limited-edition pieces for BEAMS JAPAN.
Our unique selling point is the mastery of the roi-ro (polishing) technique, the final step that brings out the ultimate luster in Wajima-nuri. Even with advanced machinery, achieving this beautiful, deep gloss requires the meticulous touch of human hands, using fingers and palms to carefully draw out the shine. The hon-kanshitsu (true dry lacquer) technique we employ results in a durable, lightweight, and environmentally friendly finish. This dedication to traditional, human-centric processes ensures the unparalleled quality of our made-in-japan lacquer crafts.
As a specialized japanese crafts supplier of Wajima-nuri accessories and home goods, we offer products that are a perfect blend of tradition and contemporary design. Our items appeal to international buyers seeking authentic, story-rich japanese crafts wholesale products with a modern aesthetic. We welcome inquiries from japanese home goods wholesale partners who value the deep, hand-polished luster and the cultural heritage of made-in-japan lacquer art.
